Call Flow Tab

Call Flow Tab

The Call Flow tab provides a visual representation of signaling activity and network interactions for a given analysis. It offers two complementary views to help you troubleshoot and validate behavior across network elements:

  • Sequence Diagram – Displays a time-ordered flow of messages between network nodes, helping you trace signaling paths step by step.

  • Topology Diagram – Shows a structural view of how nodes are connected, highlighting the relationships and traffic direction across the network.

Under this page, you will learn how to:

Available Elements in the Call Flow View

Filtering your Diagram

Advanced Filters

Use filters to customize the sequence view by protocol, message type, or specific messages.
To apply filters, open the Advanced dropdown menu in the Call Flow tab.

Advanced Filters

In the Advanced Filter, you can apply your preferences to customize the diagram view. The changes will be reflected automatically. You can filter by the following criteria:

  • Interfaces

  • Network Functions

  • Protocols

  • Message Types (Requests and Responses)

  • Specific Messages

The diagram will be blank if the selected messages are not in the flow.

Pro Tip: Click the Reset button to instantly clear all applied filters and return to the default view.

Filtering by Procedure

By default, the sequence diagram displays all procedures that occurred during the flow duration.
Use filters to narrow the view and focus on a specific procedure as needed.

To apply filters, open the Full Diagram Visualization dropdown menu in the Call Flow tab.

Accessing Additional Information

The key elements below the diagram offer additional context. Network Elements and Messages provide detailed attributes to help you analyze the flow more effectively.

Network Elements

  1. Click the Info () icon to view a Network Element’s detailed information.

  2. The element's name and description are displayed.

  3. Click on the Close () icon to close the panel.

Pro tip: You can use your trackpad or mouse to navigate in your digaram instead of scrolling.

Messages

  1. Click the message to view detailed information.

  2. The message’s additional information will be displayed.

  3. Click the Message Attributes button to jump to the frame number in the Flow Extractions tab.

  4. Click on the Close () icon to close the panel.

Proxy Session Indicator

This icon appears next to messages in the sequence diagram that are part of a proxy session.

What It Means

The presence of this icon indicates that the message is associated with a proxy session, helping you quickly identify flows that were handled through a proxy.

Use the Topology Diagram

The topology diagram chronologically displays the network domains and network messages detected in the PCAP. Use the diagram to pinpoint the precise source of issues at the network message level, isolate the root cause, and accelerate troubleshooting resolutions.

To use the Topology Diagram:

  1. Select the Topology icon to view the Topology Diagram.

  2. View the chain of network domains and elements.

The network domains found in the call flow are displayed in the top row of the Topology diagram.
The network elements are organized below their domains.

  3. Select the information icon to view detailed information.
