Network Planes View

Once a trace file is processed into an Analysis, AGILITY generates elementary Flows and organizes them in the Network Planes View, sorted chronologically by their start date and time.

Analysis Details Page: Network Plane section

You can access the Network Planes view by following these steps:

  1. Select an analysis from the list on the main page.

  2. On the Analysis Details page, scroll down to view your flows organized within the Network Planes section.

On this page, you will learn more about:

Grid View Structure

The Network Planes grid view visually separates network activity into two primary planes, organized chronologically by start time:

Control Plane

Represents signaling and control-related flows. It is further divided into:

  • Mobility Management Flows

  • Session Management Flows are subdivided into Data APN/DNN, SoS APN/DNN, and IMS APN/DNN.

User Plane

Represents user traffic and payload data. It includes:

  • IMS Flows are subdivided into SIP Registration, SIP Call, and SIP SMS

  • Data Flows

Network Flow Card: Key Information Explained

  • Each elementary Flow includes a Flow Description that summarizes its purpose or activity.

  • Each Flow is assigned a Flow StatusSuccess, Failure, Warning, or Unknown—along with a corresponding Root Error label.

  • A Flow can include one or more Interfaces, representing the protocol layers involved.

  • A Flow also contains one or more Procedures, outlining the specific network actions performed.

  • Every Flow is categorized under a single Network Plane—either Control Plane or User Plane.

Each detected elementary flow within the Network Planes is represented by an individual card in the grid view, with each card displaying its specific details:

  1. Flow Result: Each detected flow is assigned a status based on the evaluation results. The card will be color-coded based on the result the flow received, which can be: Success (green), Failure (red), Warning (yellow), or Unknown (gray).

The table below explains what each status means and how to interpret the results of your analysis:

Status

Description

Status

Description

Success

The flow completed without any warnings or errors.

Failure

One or more network failures were detected during the flow, requiring investigation.

Warning

There wasn’t enough information available to determine the outcome of the flow.

Unknown

The flow was successful overall, but certain elements or conditions were detected that may require attention.

  1. Start Date & Time: Shows when the flow began, based on the first detected message.

  2. Elementary Flow Description: A summary of what the flow represents (e.g., SIP Call, Mobility Session).

  3. Subscribers: Subscriber chips offer a quick, visual way to identify the subscribers involved in a network flow. They are designed to help you easily distinguish between participants, especially in multi-party scenarios.

    Subscriber Indicator: Chip

When there is more than one subscriber, the chip color is determined by the calling party, following the same logic used in the Subscriber Filters.

💡 Pro Tip: Hover over a subscriber chip to quickly view the MSISDN and IMSI. Click it to access full subscriber details.

  1. Conference Leg: When it is part of a conference call, the elementary flow displayed includes a Leg Identifier chip. This chip indicates the specific segment (leg) of the call, based on the flow’s source → destination mapping. It helps you quickly understand which participant or segment the flow belongs to within the broader conference session.

💡 Pro Tip: Click a conference indicator chip to quickly view the conference details.

  1. Procedures: Lists the network procedures involved in the flow, such as registration or session setup. Procedures will be color-codedred indicates a failure has occurred within that procedure.

    Network Planes: Procedures Information

💡 Pro Tip: Click a procedure chip to view flow details filtered by that specific procedure.

  1. Classification Information: In addition to the failed procedures, AGILITY displays the root error for the flow along with its location within the sequence.

The location is shown in the following format: Frame Number (hyperlink): Source Network Element → Destination Network Element

💡 Pro Tip: Clicking the frame number takes you directly to the point in the sequence diagram where the error occurred.

  1. Action Buttons

    1. View Possible Causes (): For failed flows, you can check the Possible Causes by clicking the icon. This will redirect you to the Diagnostics tab, where the potential root causes related to the selected error are listed.

Filter Capabilities

The Network Planes view displays all flows for every subscriber detected in the trace file.
To narrow the view and focus on the activity of a specific subscriber, flow status, or conference ID, use the available filters as outlined below:

Display Filter
  1. Open the Display Filter
Click the Display Filter field above the table.

    Network Planes: Display Filters
  2. Start typing an attribute name
    Begin entering the attribute (Wireshark-style, e.g. ip.src, http.host).

  3. Check attribute validation

    1. If the attribute exists, the field displays a valid state, a green outline.

      image-20251114-211023.png
      Display Filter: Valid State
    2. If the attribute does not exist or is invalid, the field displays an error state, a red outline.

      Display Filter: Error State
  4. Complete the filter expression
    Add operators and values (e.g. ip.src == 10.0.0.1) following Wireshark-style syntax.

  5. Apply the filter
Press Enter to update the results based on the validated display filter.

Subscriber Filter
